Steatite (Magnesium Silicon Oxide)
Subcategory: Oxide, Magnesium; Oxide, Silicon; Oxide
Material Notes: Magnesium silicon oxide. Used for high frequency, low loss, high voltage insulation (resistor forms, surge arrestors, standoffs, spacers, and coil forms). Less expensive than alumina insulators. Information below is typical for commercially available steatite. A wide variation of properties is possible between specific grades.
