Goodfellow Alumina Silicate SiO2 53/Al2O3 47
Subcategory: Oxide, Silicon; Oxide, Aluminum
Key Words: SiO2, Al2O3
Material Notes: General Description:This high purity alumina/silica composition yields fibers with a good combination of high temperature stability, low thermal conductivity, low heat capacity, good chemical resistance, excellent sound absorption and excellent thermal shock resistance. The item available from stock uses these fibers in a 2-ply spun yarn which also includes about 20% rayon carrier fiber and two fine Inconel® wires. The latter provide much greater tensile strength to the yarn and the rayon will "burn" out by about 300C if/when the yarn is subsequently heated. The fiber, yarn and other derived products are used for a wide variety of insulation and sealing applications and also as an asbestos replacement. The tabulated properties are those of the ceramic fiber used in the yarn. The properties of the yarn are modified especially by the Inconel® wire whose temperature limit, especially in tension, is about 1090C. Information provided by Goodfellow.
