Subcategory: Concrete
Key Words: lightweight aggregates
Material Notes: 0.04-0.07% drying shrinkage. Certain clays and shales are heated nearly to the softening point, they expand or bloat with the generation of gases within the material. Expanded aggregates of this type are produced either as rounded pellets, in a rotary kiln, or as fragmented particles from the breaking of the porous cakes formed on a sinter strand.
