Mid-Mountain Materials Siltex® 40 Amorphous Silica Textile
Subcategory: Glass; Oxide, Silicon; Glass Fiber; Oxide; Composite Fibers
Material Notes: Description: SILTEX is a family of high performance textile fabric that is comprised of high purity, high strength amorphous silica fibers, woven into a strong, flexible fabric designed for use where severe temperature conditions exist. SILTEX 40 is a super-heavyweight fabric manufactured to a finished weight of 40 ounces per square yard. The tight 12-harnes satin weave makes for a very strong yet extremely flexible high-temperature-resistant fabric. SILTEX 40 is designed for extreme applications where severe welding splatter, sparks, grinding of metals, etc. is present. Also excellent for use in protection from the flying molten metal chars that are most commonly present in the Electric Arc and BOF steel making processes. SILTEX 40 is a truly unique product combining high strength, flexibility, high temperature resistance and excellent thermal properties. The amorphous silica fibers that make up all SILTEX products are unaffected by most chemicals, except strong alkalis, hydrofluoric acid or sodium. All SILTEX fabrics are available in standard “C” and pre-shrunk (fired) versions. Fabrics are available with several coating/treatment options that enhance certain properties of the product in order to meet required performance characteristics.
