Material Notes: Carbon represents the total carbon in the above composition. The above composition represents possible constituent elements in 60-40-18. Most ductile irons are specified by mechanical properties and have loosely defined compositions. For example, 60-40-18 ductile iron is specified to have a minimum tensile strength of 60 ksi (414 MPa), a yield strength of 40 ksi (276 MPa) and an elongation of 18%. Copper, nickel, and molybdenum are often added to ductile irons to improve strength and hardenability. Determined for a single temperature of ductile iron, heat treated to approximate various standard grades. Properties were obtained using test bars machined from 25 mm keel blocks. Corrosion Resistance: Copper and nickel, along with chromium and additional amounts of silicon can improve corrosion resistance.
