Gamma Titanium Aluminide, TiAl
Subcategory: Intermetallic
Close Analogs: Composition table gives weight percent.
Material Notes: Intermetallic aluminides have good mechanical properties and stability to be used in high temperature environments. A thin protective Al2O3 coating forms to provide oxidative stability. A range of stoichiometries is possible through elemental substitutions. Researchers are examining titanium aluminide applications in fields such as jet engine turbines because of their high temperature properties and low density. May be processed by ingot metallurgy or forging. Limited processibility by casting. Difficult to sheet roll.
