Corrosive attack of stainless steels by concentrated nitric acid often results in preferential attack of grain boundaries. The high Cr content combined with restricted levels of C, Si, P, S, and Mo provide the 310L alloy with outstanding resistance to intergranular attack in nitric acid environments.
