Characteristics: Braze 603 can be used where low volatiles is not a requirement. This filler metal can also be used successfully to braze in hydrogen atmospheres without the use of flux. The tin content of this filler metal improves its wetting characteristics on ferrous alloys over that obtainable with binary silver-copper filler metals. The tin addition also lowers the melting range versus binary silver-copper compositions. There is some tendency for the filler metal to liquate, but this is minimized by rapid heating to brazing temperature.
Applications: Braze 603 is a silver-base brazing metal useful for making low temperature seals on vacuum tube components and for controlled atmosphere brazing of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys without flux. These filler metals are also recommended for brazing marine heat exchangers that are in contact with salt water, where there is a danger of dezincification to alloys containing zinc, particularly with joints on copper-nickel tubing.
Specifications: This filler metals conform to the following specifications- AWS A5.8 BVAg-18 (Gr. 2), SAE AMS 4773, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section II-C BAg-18
