This alloy is the same as ER309, except for the carbon content. Low (0.03% maximum) carbon in this filler metal reduces the possibility of intergranular carbine precipitation thus increases the resistance to intergranular corrosion without the use of stabilizers such as columbium titanium. It should be noted that at elevated temperatures the 309L deposit is not as strong as the stabilized grades or the standard ER309.
