Advanced Elastomer Systems Santoprene® 261-87 Thermoplastic Rubber
Subcategory: Elastomer, TPE; Thermoplastic
Material Notes: A colorable thermoplastic elastomer for wet electrical wire and cable applications with good fluid resistance, formulated to replace thermoset elastomers such as EPDM, polychloroprene, and chlorosulfonated polyethylene. It can be processed using injection molding, extrusion, blow molding or other melt processing techniques. Key Features: UL 62 Bulletin listed for flexible cord applications; Wire and cable rating: 105°C (221°F) dry, 75°C (167°F) wet and 60°C (140°F) oil; EM 60 at 75°C (167°F): 1 day SIC = 2.59; % change in SIC, 1 to 14 days = 1.00; % change in SIC, 7 to 14 days = 0.50; Stability factor, 14 days = 0.14; Power factor, %, 14 days = 1.11; Deformation at 150°C (302°F) (T-2/T-1) = 0.59 Additional processing comments: This thermoplastic rubber is a shear-dependent material that can be processed on conventional thermoplastic equipment for injection molding, extrusion, or blow molding. For extrusion, a general purpose screw with a compression ratio of 2.5 to 3.0 is recommended. Material can be recycled. SANTOPRENE rubber is incompatible with acetal and PVC. Values below are for injection molded plaques, side gated, 82.6 mm x 117.5 mm x 3.0 mm. Tensile properties measured across flow. Data provided by Advanced Elastomer Systems.
