BASF Petra® 132 BK-112 Impact Modified, 30% Glass-Filled PET
Subcategory: Polyester, TP; Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET); Thermoplastic; Polymer
Close Analogs: This grade is no longer a part of the BASF NAFTA standard product line.
Material Notes: Petra 132 BK-112 is a 30% glass reinforced, impact modified, pigmented black, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) molding compound offering an excellent balance of engineering properties combined with ease of processability. It exhibits a superb combination of high strength, stiffness and improved impact over standard glass reinforced polyesters. Petra 132 BK-112 is generally recommended for applications such as support and mechanical components. Data provided by Allied Signal. Processing: To insure optimum part performance, this product must be dried prior to molding and maintained at a moisture level of less than 0.02%. Dehumidifying or desiccant dryers operating at 120 degC (248 degF) and 2 to 4 hours drying time is recommended. Melt Temperature: 280-300 degC (536-572 degF). Mold Temperature: 100-110 degC (212-230 degF). Injection and Packing Pressure: 35-125 bar (500-1500psi) This product can be processed over mold temperatures of 80-120 degC (176-248 degF); however, for optimizing surface appearance, dimensional stability and part performance, mold surface temperatures of 100-110 degC (212-230 degF) are preferred. Injection pressure controls the filling of the part and should be applied for 90% of ram travel. Packing pressure affects the final part and can be used effectively in controlling sink marks and shrinkage. It should be applied and maintained until the gate area is completely frozen off. Back pressure can be utilized to provide uniform melt consistency and reduce trapped air and gas. A maximum of 3.5 bar (50 psi) is recommended to minimize glass fiber breakage. Fast fill rates are recommended to insure uniform melt delivery to the cavity and prevent premature freezing. Surface appearance is directly affected by injection rate.
