BASF Petra® 7030, 30% Glass-Filled Recycled PET

Subcategory: Polyester, TP; Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET); Thermoplastic; Polymer

Close Analogs: This grade is no longer a part of the BASF NAFTA standard product line.

Material Notes:
Petra 7030 is a high flow 30% glass fiber reinforced compound based on post-consumer and post-industrial recycled polyethylene terephthalate feedstock. It offers strength, stiffness, and rigidity combined with excellent dimensional stability, creep resistance and high temperature performance. Its improved flow results in excellent surface aesthetics which can eliminate the need for painting parts. It is available in pigmented versions.

Petra 7030 is generally recommended for applications such as furniture components.

Data provided by Allied Signal.

Processing: To insure optimum part performance, this product must be dried prior to molding and maintained at a moisture level of less than 0.01%. A dehumidifying hopper dryer mounted on to the molding machine and equipped with alternating desiccant beds and air temperature/dew point indicators is highly recommended.

Melt Temperature: 280-300 degC (537-572 degF). Mold Temperature: 100-110 degC (212-230 degF). Injection and Packing Pressure: 35-125 bar (500-1500psi) This product can be processed over mold temperatures of 80-120 degC; however, for optimizing surface appearance, dimensional stability and part performance, mold surface temperatures of 100-110 degC (212-230 degF) are preferred. Injection pressure controls the filling of the part and should be applied for 90% of ram travel. Packing pressure affects the final part and can be used effectively in controlling sink marks and shrinkage. It should be applied and maintained until the gate area is completely frozen off. Back pressure can be utilized to provide uniform melt consistency and reduce trapped air and gas. A maximum of 3.5 bar (50 psi) is recommended to minimize glass fiber breakage. Fast fill rates are recommended to insure uniform melt delivery to the cavity and prevent premature freezing. Surface appearance is directly affected by injection rate.
