Bionate® Polycarbonate-Urethane (PCU), 55 Shore D
Subcategory: Polycarbonate; Polyurethane, TP; Thermoplastic
Key Words: The Polymer Technology Group; Polyurethane; PCU
Material Notes: Clear to slightly cloudy appearance. Molecular Weight Average (GPC) is 264,000; Molecular Weight Number (GPC) is 81,000. Polydispersity (Mw/Mn) is 3.2. Recommended sterilization method is ethylene oxide. Passes USP XXII Class VI Biological Reaction. Bionate® PCUs were formerly manufactured under the tradename Corethane® Polycarbonate Urethanes by Corvita Corp. The patented Corethane/Coremer/Corehesive polymers are among the most extensively tested biomaterials yet developed, and they are the first biomedical polyurethanes to be promoted for their biostability. This family of materials achieves oxidative stability through a replacement of susceptible ether groups with carbonate linkages adjacent to hydrocarbon groups. This makes these polymers attractive in applications in which oxidation is a potential mode of degradation, such as in pacemaker leads. Information provided by The Polymer Technology Group.
