Kydex® P40 Extrusion Compound
Subcategory: Thermoplastic
Material Notes: High HDT compound for profile extrusion Applications: This compound is designed for profile extrusion where high heat resistance and chemical resistance in a molding or profile are desired. It can also be used in aircraft applications requiring compliance to FAR 25.853a flammability resistance. Features: Kydex P40 is available in both powder form for twin-screw extruders and pelletized for single-screw and/or twin screw extruders. IT is available natural for coloring at the extruder and pre-colored for ease of handling. It is very resistant to a range of concentrated chemicals and cleaners. It's Heat Distortion Temperature, which is a measure of the material's maximum service temperature is 75.6°C unannealed at 1.8 N/mm^2 and 81.1°C after annealing. In-use temperature should not exceed this range of temperature. Please note that the affect of temperature on a material is highly dependent on how it is processed and used. It meets FAR 25.853(a) Processing: This compound should be processed using rigid PVC extrusion equipment under standard PVC operating conditions. Barrel temperatures in an extruder should be set at 166-171°C and adapter and die temperatures should be 171-177°C. Screw RPMs of 23 to 33 are typical. Typically single screw extruders are used for pelletized material and conical twin screw extruders for powder. Unlike other thermoplastic resins, pre-drying is not required.
