Kydex® P51 Acrylic/PVC Extrusion Compound
Subcategory: Vinyl; Acrylic; Thermoplastic
Key Words: Polyvinylchloride; PMMA; Polymethylmethacrylate
Material Notes: Profile extrusion compound for building products Applications: Handrails, crashrails, bumper guards, corner guards Features: Extruded profiles made with P51 are extremely resistant to harsh chemicals and solvents and to cleaning agents. P51 offers excellent fire retardancy; it meets the requirements of Class I/A Building Code Classification. P51 is available in a large range of standard and custom colors. Smoke Generation: 57 Ds @ 4.0 min; ASTM E662. Processing: This compound should be processed using rigid PVC extrusion equipment under standard PVC operating conditions. Barrel temperatures in an extruder should be set at 166-171°C and adapter and die temperatures should be 171-177°C. Screw RPMs of 23 to 33 are typical. Typically single screw extruders are used for pelletized material and conical twin screw extruders for powder. Unlike other thermoplastic resins, pre-drying is not required.
