Kuraray Company Septon™ 2043 Thermoplastic Rubber
Subcategory: Elastomer, TPE; Thermoplastic
Close Analogs: Currently not a part of the current Kuraray product line.
Key Words: Thermoplastic Elastomer, TPE
Material Notes: 2043 is a Triblock (SEPS) copolymer. Septon™ is comprised of polystyrene blocks and soft polyolefin rubber blocks. It exhibits rubber-like properties over a wide range of temperature, although it flows like a thermoplastic at high temperatures. It has excellent elasticity and tensile strength without vulcanization, excellent heat aging resistance and low temp properties (Tg of rubber blocks is -53°C), affinity for olefinic and styrenics polymers, high electrical insulation, resistant to acids, alkalis, and alcohols, and low toxicity. Supplied in pellet form. Applications: Plastics modification: When blended with olefinic plastics, Septon™ improves physical properties such as impact strength and acts as a compatibilizer between olefinic and styrenic plastics. Adhesives: When blended with tackifier and process oil, Septon™ affords adhesives having excellent heat resistance and weather resistance. Information provided by LarSan Chemical Company.
