Montell Polybutene-1 DP 8220
Subcategory: Polybutene; Thermoplastic
Close Analogs: Basell is the successor company to Montell.
Material Notes:
Key Features: semi-crystalline, medium ethylene content random copolymer, reduces seal initiation temperature, FDA acceptable Applications: seal-peel layer of BOPP film Meets FDA requirements in 21 CFR 177.1570 for direct food contact up to 212°F (100°C). Description: Polybutene-1 DP 8220 is a development product. It is a semi-crystallinel, medium ethylene content random copolymer which is miscible with polypropylenes due to its similar molecular structure. In blends with polyehtylenes it is immiscible but easily dispersible. The main target application for this experimental grade has been designed for use in blends wit polypropylene, to reduce the seal initiation temperature. A typical application is the seal-peel layer of BOPP film formulations used for high speed packaging applications. By varying the concentrations of th blend components, seal initiation temperatures down to 75°C can be acheived. This grade can be used in easy-opening applications where the optical properties of the peelable seal are critical. This resin meets FDA requirements for direct food contact at temperatures up to 100°C under regulation 21 CFR 177.1570. Information provided by Montell Polyolefins.
