Montell Polybutene-1 DP 8310
Subcategory: Polybutene; Thermoplastic
Close Analogs: Basell is the successor company to Montell.
Material Notes:
Key Features: semi-crystalline high ethylene content random copolymer Applications: packaging industry, cast film, FDA acceptable Meets FDA requirements in 21 CFR 177.1570 for direct food contact up to 212°F (100°C). Description: Polybutene-1 DP 8310 is a semi-crystalline high ethylene content random copolymer which is miscible with polypropylenes due to its similar moecular structure. In blends with polyethylene it is immiscible but easily dispersible. It is used in the packaging industry as a minor additive in a polyethylene peel seal layer for the production of coextruded glexible film or more rigid sheet. Varying the copolymer concentration in th peel seal layer offers the unique possibility of tailoring the seal strength blown or cast film formulations when imporved optical properties of the reulting fim are required. A typical blend partner is a low density polyethylene iwth a melt index range between 0.5 and 4 dg/min. All other polyethylene types and copolymers of the same melt index range can be used. It can also be used in blends wiht polypropylenes to reduce flexural modulus and hardness characteristics very effectively. This resin meets FDA requirements for direct food contact at temperatures up to 100°C under regulation 21 CFR 177.1570. Information provided by Montell Polyolefins.
