Montell Polybutene-1 PB 0300
Subcategory: Polybutene; Thermoplastic
Close Analogs: Basell is the successor company to Montell.
Material Notes:
Key Features: highly isotactic, semi-crystalline homopolymer, good creep resistance, good environmental crack resistance, miscible with polypropylenes Applications: packaging industry, minor additive in polyethylene seal-peel layer Meets FDA requirements in 21 CFR 177.1570 for direct food contact up to 212°F (100°C). Description: Polybutene-1 PB 0300 is a highly isotactic, seim-crystalline homopolymer which can be used where creep resistnace, environmental stress crack resistance and elevated temperature performance are key requirements. This polymer is miscible with polypropylenes due to its similar molecular structure. In blends with polyethylenes it is immiscible but easily dispersible. This copolymer is used in the packaging industry primarily as a minor additive in a polyethylene seal-peel layer for the production of coextruded flexible film or more rigid sheet. Varying the concentration in the seal-peel layer offers the unique possibility of tailoring the seal strength for controlled easy-opening of peelable seal packaging. This grade is particulary suitable when peelability is required for packages needing a high er heat resistnace. A typical blend partner is a high density polyethylene with a melt index range between 2 and 4 dg/min. This copolymer meets FDA requirements for direct food contact under regulation 21 CFR 177.1570.
